I spoke to Steve's Aunt, Linda Riggins who Steve used her mailing address and email to get his ACFB.  Steve was a Life ACF member and a strong Master player; although, ACF did not recognize him with a title because he had not played any recent sanctioned tournaments in 15 years, but non-the-less Steve was one of the "Checker Giants" top Tennessee checker players for over 40 years and often visited the TN Opens and Southern Opens.  Steve won the Minors in 1982 3-Move Nationals at Trace Inn, Tupelo, MS and this was when we had 30+ players in each division. He played in the Masters Division at the 1986 Nationals - Trace Inn, Tupelo, MS. He won the Majors in the 1993 TN Open and it seems he stopped playing tournaments around 2010.  Steve also collected and accumulated checker books and several checker libraries including Carl Reno's large library.  Steve's library was probably one of the most complete and extensive in the state if not the country.

According to Linda, Steve become sick with covid and pneumonia about August 16th and died 4 days later.  They should have put him in the hospital, but Steve wanted to tuff it out at home thinking he could or would self-improve.  A friend took his checker books.  He really enjoyed playing checkers and collecting all the books.
Thanks again, Linda   1/22/2022

We will definitely miss Steve.
